Summer Backyard Playset Activities
Summer is here! The children are home and ready to enjoy their backyards and playsets! Family, cousins, friends, neighbors will be visiting YOUR house to join in on the backyard fun. Our playsets are fun all on their own, but can be even more fun with friends, neighbors and family visiting this summer. Here are a few ideas and activities to keep your kids entertained, active, and learning this summer.
- Find the Ice Cubes – Helps to build good eye/hand coordination. Fill a bucket with ice cubes and go hide them all over your playset and backyard. Use a timer so the activity doesn’t go on too long. The game is over in 30 minutes for example. Give each child a big glass or place to put their ice cubes when they find them. You can have a winner (who found the most) or call the game and celebrate when a certain number is reached by each child.
Summertime is Fun time!
- Funky Monkey Bars – Monkey bars build coordination and strong muscles. Have each child try to cross the monkey bars. Celebrate each rung. Another idea is to see who can just hang from a monkey bar the longest. It may surprise you who wins this one. Give all the little strong monkeys a banana to enjoy after the fun.
- Get Dressed – Rock wall climbing is an incredible way for kids to learn to coordinate their limbs. Attach some items onto the rocks of the rock wall. A bracelet, a necklace, a hat or 2, a scarf for examples. Keep in mind it needs to be possible to put them on while holding on. You can use a timer and see who can climb the wall while getting dressed the fastest. When they reach the top, they need to stop and look down at mom or dad for a photo-op. Be sure and supervise this activity so nothing or no-one gets tangled up.
- Playset Obstacle Course – Kids love obstacle courses, and they are great for helping kids with their stamina and remembering a sequence. Set up the route of your obstacle course and demonstrate it for the children. An example would be 1. Run to ladder and do 3 jumping jacks 2. Climb the ladder and do a leg kick 3. Go into the fort and throw a water balloon out of the window 4. Climb back down the ladder 5. Do a little dance then climb up the rock wall 6. Enter the fort again and grab a water balloon 7. Go to the slide and shout out your favorite food, put the balloon in your lap before sliding down. If your balloon doesn’t pop, throw it as far as you can use a timer if you’d like.
Fun is Our Middle Name
- Water Balloon Target Practice – This will give your children experience with arm strength and projectile motion physics! Get a big tub and fill it with water balloons. Set up targets with numbers on them all over the playset. You can use this game to teach the younger kids their numbers and keep the targets low or put values on the targets and the older kids will have fun hitting the higher targets. The higher the target the more the value. Have the older kids keep their own score or have a scorekeeper.
The main goal for summertime is to get your kids outside working those little muscles and building their stamina. When you have little cousins, friends and neighbors visiting, these activities will help to direct their fun in easy but incredible ways. The activities will help to work and exercise their little bodies but best of all they will form wonderful summertime memories for them to cherish.
Our goal, at Backyard Fun Factory, is to celebrate family and have children grow up with wonderful, lasting childhood memories at home. Our sets are a whimsical place that will tweak their imaginations and encourage backyard fun and learning.
