Fun Family Activities (and a Few Harmless Pranks!)
We have lived through the holidays, January, and now working on February. Unfortunately the cooler weather comes and goes but we can’t seem to find much time to be outside enough. The kids have been mostly cooped up indoors, and they are starting to feel that familiar sense of…cabin fever!
It’s not just the kids who get restless during these winter months. Moms and dads can feel it too! So, how do you combat the cabin fever blues and keep everyone entertained?
Embrace the Fun: Family Activities to Beat Cabin Fever
First, let’s focus on some positive ways to keep everyone active and engaged:
Indoor Scavenger Hunts: Hide clues around the house that lead to a fun prize or activity.
Family Game Nights: Break out the board games, card games, or even video games for some friendly competition.
Creative Arts and Crafts: Get crafty with painting, drawing, building, or any other art project that sparks your family’s imagination.
Bake Together: Spend an afternoon baking cookies, cakes, or other treats.
Build a Fort: Use blankets, pillows, and furniture to create a cozy fort in the living room.
A Little Mischief: Harmless Pranks to Lighten the Mood (Use with Caution!)
Okay, now for a little bit of playful mischief! If you’re feeling brave and your kids have a good sense of humor, here are a few harmless pranks to add some laughter to your day:
The Colorful Faucet: Add a food coloring tablet to their bathroom faucet and watch their surprise when the water turns a different color.
The Great Bed Swap: After they fall asleep, gently move them around. Put your son in your daughter’s room, or vice versa. (Just be prepared for some confusion in the morning!)
“Eat Bugs!” (Raisins Edition): Scatter raisins or craisins around the house, then exclaim, “Ooh yummy, a bug!” and eat it. (Make sure your kids are old enough to be grossed out and not just start eating them too!)
The Saturday School Day: Wake the kids up early on a Saturday and tell them it’s a school day. After they get ready, tell them the principal called and school was canceled. (This one is best for a payback giggle!)
Frozen Breakfast Surprise: Scramble some eggs, grab some link sausages and a biscuit, and freeze them. When they come to eat their breakfast, listen to their grumbles and just laugh (but maybe have a backup breakfast ready!).
