In the month of May our landscape begins to be dotted more with the colors of a renewing world.
After the April showers new life begins as the sun warms the earth.
Flowers begin blooming, baby animals are born and trees begin filling out once again with beautiful green leaves.

Things To Do in Your Own Backyard for Fun!
Hey, kids! May is an awesome time for exploring outside in your own backyard. No more dark winter sun, after dinner, the sun is still shining, so it’s a perfect time for backyard fun! Here are some cool ideas to try.
Insect Hunt – You can learn so much about insects and have fun in your backyard. Get your magnifying glass and see what bugs you can find. There are many common bugs in your backyard like ants, bees, beetles, and spiders. Where do they live? What do they eat? (some insects sting so be careful)
Lie on a Blanket and Look for Shapes in the Clouds – This is great backyard fun, I see a train, I see a dinosaur, I see a bear! What do you see?
Make a whistle with a blade of grass – Another great idea for backyard fun would be to make a whistle!
You will need A blade of Grass (wide, coarse grass)
Both thumbs (make a little house with the hands, the thumbs being the door) press the thumbs together with the blade lengthwise between your thumbs the grass pulled taunt between the base of your thumbs and your knuckles. Now open up your house in the back with your pinkies for the air to blow through, make sure there is a gap between the grass and your thumbs!
Now purse your lips & blow between your thumb knuckles. You are wanting the grass to vibrate as you blow.
Patience, keep trying, once you get it to whistle you can cup your hands to make the pitch higher or lower.
Have a Picnic Lunch outside – Making a picnic lunch to eat outside is an easy way for backyard fun. Gather up your favorite lunch foods and put them in a basket or bucket. Sandwiches and watermelon slices make a great lunch! Use an outside table or put a blanket on the ground. Enjoy the fresh air and eating under the clouds.
Scavenger Hunt – A fun backyard scavenger hunt is always a hit! Gather items to hide like rocks, small toys, even old easter eggs. One person hides them. The others will go on a fun hunt to find the items! Each child playing gets a turn hiding the items, while the others find them.
These types of fun backyard activities encourage kids to explore the world around them so everyone gets some fresh air, while observing life, the clouds, and each other.
