Is Physical Activity Important for Toddlers?

Here at Backyard Fun Factory, keeping children active is our game. This year, we introduced our Toddler Trainer! A playset for children between 1-5. Just like reading books to a toddler helps to boost their brain’s capabilities, physical activity helps to boost their physical capabilities. We love our Toddler Trainer helps to give them a head start in building their little bodies.

But toddlers are just little guys, how much daily exercise do they need?

          The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) believes 

          even our young children need plenty of physical activity 

          during the day. The following is what they recommend.

Children from 1 year up to 3 years old, should have at least 3 hours of play each day.

Children from 3 years up to 5 years old, should be physically active for at least 3 hours each day. And 1 of the hours needs to be energetic play.

**Energetic Play – Could be running, jumping, climbing, dancing etc. Play that gets their heart and lungs working.

3 Hours may seem like a lot but you can break it up throughout the day. The health benefits the children gain, make it incredibly worth the effort.

The following are the physical health benefits gained with 3 hours of Physical activity a day.

1. strengthens their bones, muscles, hearts and lungs

2. improves their flexibility, balance, and coordination

3. Improves their sleep

4. boosts their immune system

5. reduces their risks for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, anxiety & depression

We took one of our most popular add-on structures, and modified it to be the “Toddler Trainer”. Toddlers start their journey from the ground, up the large platform steps to the main 3’ 6” deck, and down the fully enclosed commercial grade sidewinder slide that drops them off right at the entrance of the platform steps to begin another round of fun!
