Back to School and Backyard Play

You remember being in school as a child. You would spend all day at school learning, you would get maybe 45 minutes for recess (including walking to and from) then if you were lucky you’d have a team practice once, sometimes twice a week. That is only 7 hours of the 5 day school week.

Of a child’s awake hours of 70-75 hours during their 5 day week, only 7 hours of play isn’t enough. Playing outside is good for kids! It strengthens their little bodies as they grow and teaches them to play together socially as well as boosts their imaginations, and creativity!

Children love playing outside. They are happier when they have a place to play. Growing up we had a trampoline that brought the neighborhood kids around. There weren’t very many backyard trampolines back then, so it was a delight to watch each new kid try it out. Sometimes even their parents would come to watch and maybe take a jump or two. As we moved from place to place it never failed to bring the neighborhood kids around ready to check it out and play.

Many children have playsets today that bring the fun and exercise to their backyards.

Backyard playgrounds offer endless hours of fun for children of all ages. Playsets also bring endless hours of PHYSICAL exercise, to enhance both their fine and gross motor skills. EMOTIONAL skills of a child are honed when they learn to take turns, and become more confident in their abilities. As your child learns to talk, and work together with their peers their SOCIAL skills will grow.

A playset can do all that? Yes it can. And a playset in your backyard gives your child a close…..safe…..place to play and explore during those 70-75 hours during their 5 day school week that they don’t get otherwise.
