Did you know February is also Heart Health month? It’s a time to show your kids how outdoor activities can help them to live heart healthy lives. Here are some heart healthy playset activities for your kids to do after decorating their Heart Wonderland playsets:
- Wiggle Hearts. Make some small jello hearts. Have each child put a jello heart in a plastic spoon. The children can hold the spoon in one hand or in their mouths. Make an obstacle course. For example….1. walk to the playset and you must swing for 30 seconds without dropping the heart. 2. Walk up the ladder and put your head outside the fort window for Mom to take a picture. Go up the ladder and slide down the slide twice without dropping the heart. Etc… These activities can be changed and added to, to fit the ages and capabilities of each child.
Q: What do you say to an octopus on Valentine’s Day? A: I want to hold your hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand.
- Cold Hearts. Grab one of those heart ice trays at a dollar store. Moreover, this game works great on those cold winter days. Utilize red food coloring and make a lot of frozen red hearts. Next, put a plastic cup on a table for each child. After counting the hearts, go hide them. However, be cautious, as the ice could stain little hands or clothes when they melt. Proceed to hide the heart ice cubes. Subsequently, let the children go hunt them. Nonetheless, they can only bring back ONE heart at a time and put it in their cup. The game concludes when all the hearts are returned. Ultimately, the child with the most hearts wins!
Q: What do you call a very small Valentine’s Day card? A: A Valen-teeny
- Digging for Hearts. If your playset has a sandbox, bury the cut-out hearts. Then the children can dig them up!

Q: What do you call two birds in love? A: Tweethearts!
- XOXO-Hugs and Kisses. Each child gets an XOXO by their name. Mom or Dad need to be the caller and scorekeeper. Let the children just play on the playset like they want. When you Yell either X (they make an X with their bodies) or O (they make an O with their bodies.) If they make the wrong one or are unable to make it (hanging upside down) you mark off one of the Hugs(O) or Kisses(X) Child with the most X’s and O’s wins. Another way to play is when each child starts with No X’s or O’s and when they get 2(or more) of each they get a prize (valentine pencil, eraser, or candy)
Q: Why is Valentine’s Day a great day to party? A: Because you can party hearty!
Bundle up and go outdoors for an outside Valentine’s Day of fun! Moving around outside and getting their heart rates up will help to keep them warm. Teach them that it’s not “bad” weather. It’s our earth renewing itself and it’s beautiful. So, enjoy being together and creating fun in the “great” winter weather and enjoy your playset!
