Why should you stain your outdoor playset?
I would like to start by stating that every type of material will eventually be affected by outdoor elements, and wood is no exception. I love the natural beauty of wood, but you cannot have cut lumber outdoors for long periods of time without it getting affected by the elements. Anytime you have an outdoor wooden playset, deck or furniture you must protect it. Either staining or painting the wood will provide protection, however, we recommend staining.
Stain contains UV stabilizers. This helps protect the wood from the bleaching effects of the sun as well as mold inhibitors. We choose to stain our playsets. Our stain not only provides lasting protection, but also enhances the beauty of the product. Paint and vinyl, a lot of times, will chip and peel, making it harder to maintain the beauty of the set. Each stick of lumber on every redwood play set we build is completely submerged in a vat of stain for ultimate protection.
Once your play set is built in your yard we recommend re-staining the set within the first 1-1.5 years. During this time the wood has had time to void itself of all excess moisture. After your first re-stain, your playset should be good for up to 2-3 years before needing another coat of stain. We also offer releveling & tightening services in the interim to help maintain the wooden play structure.

We hope this information will help you maintain the beauty and integrity of your outdoor wooden playset.
